Qiqi Hou, born in 1996 in a port city in southeastern China, is a self-shooting documentary director and editor with a talent for capturing the essence of marginalized and underrepresented communities. She completed her MA in Documentary Film with distinction at the University of the Arts London. Her graduation film, My Mum Rita, received the following recognitions:

• Nominated for the Royal Television Society Student Television Awards 2024 in the Postgraduate Factual - Short Form category

• Won Best Short in the Duemila30 Film Festival 2024 Edition

• Won Best Short in the Pathways to Wellbeing category in the Duemila30 Film Festival 2024

• Won 3rd Place Best Student Film at the Women Over 50 Film Festival 2023

 

Qiqi's work is characterised by sensitivity, empathy, and humor, revealing intimate interactions and emotional depth. She views filmmaking as a vehicle for social engagement and personal empowerment.
